This page explains how quizzes on HeiyuQuiz work, how scoring and ties are handled, and what counts as fair play. For anything legal, see our Terms and Privacy Policy.

1) Definitions

• Quiz: A set of multiple-choice questions available from a unique link (e.g., #/play/ABC123).
• Host: The person who creates and shares a quiz link.
• Player: Anyone who opens the link and submits answers with a display name.

2) Game flow

• The host creates a quiz and shares the link. Quizzes stay open until their shown “Closes” time or for the configured duration.
• Players enter a display name and select one answer per question, then submit.
• After submission, players can view the leaderboard and (when available) “My answers.”

3) Question sources

• Questions may be sourced from a public trivia API and/or generated by AI (OpenAI).
• AI content can be imperfect or outdated. Quizzes are for entertainment; we may correct or remove questions at any time.

4) Scoring

• Each correct answer is worth one (1) point; incorrect or blank answers score zero.
• Total score is the sum of correct answers across all questions in the quiz.

5) Ties

• Leaderboards are sorted by highest score first.
• If two or more players have the same score, earlier submission time ranks higher.
• Hosts may optionally apply a manual tie-break (e.g., bonus question) outside the app.

6) Time limits & availability

• Each quiz has an “open” window (e.g., 24 hours by default). Submissions after closing are not accepted.
• Results links typically remain accessible for a period even after closing, but availability is not guaranteed.

7) Fair play & cheating

• One submission per player per device/network is enforced on a best-effort basis. Duplicate attempts may be blocked.
• Automated answering, sharing answers during play, or attempting to bypass limits is prohibited.
• We may use basic signals (e.g., IP + name) to reduce spam and duplicates. Obvious abuse may be deleted.

8) Names & content

• Display names must be appropriate and non-abusive. Names can be removed or edited at our discretion.
• We may filter or replace questions that violate our content standards (hate, adult content, self-harm, etc.).

9) Data handling

• Submissions (name, picks, score, timestamps) are stored so results can be displayed.
• We use Supabase for storage and may log basic technical data for security.
• See the Privacy Policy for retention periods and how to request deletion.

10) Accessibility

• We aim for tap-friendly controls and clear contrast. If you need an accommodation, contact us.

11) Hosting & moderation

• Hosts are responsible for where and how links are shared.
• We may remove quizzes or submissions that breach these rules or our Terms.

12) Prizes

• Unless expressly stated by the host, quizzes do not award official prizes.
• If a host offers a prize, the host—not HeiyuQuiz—is responsible for prize rules and fulfillment.

13) Disputes

• If you believe a correct answer was marked wrong, send the quiz link, question number, and evidence.
• We may update the question or answer key for future games, but we don’t guarantee retrospective changes.

14) Changes

We may update this policy. When we do, we’ll revise the “Last updated” date above.
